By taking advantage of Apple's low-energy Bluetooth technology, museums can engage visitors more easily and richly than in the past. iBeacon transmitters can replace labor-intensive conventional labels to give visitors the opportunity to engage with art in new ways—either uninterrupted by wall labels or rich with additional text, interviews, and related content. Visitors can download a free label app onto their own phones or rent devices from the museum, providing opportunities for curators to offer didactic content not preivously practical given the constraints of traditional labels.
